Women's Open-Knit Asymmetric Cape & Ruched V-Neck Fluid Maxi Dress Set – 6 Colors S–2XL

Two pieces that were designed for each other. A loose, open-knit asymmetric cape — large-gauge artisan bouclé knit, draped cowl neckline, diagonal pointed front hem, batwing side openings — layered over a sleeveless V-neck fluid maxi dress with a ruched empire waist, side pocket, and a gently ruffled asymmetric hem. The cape comes in six solid colors — Olive Green, Red, Navy Blue, Black, Apricot, Slate Gray — and is styled in all images over the white dress beneath: a colored artisan-knit layer above, a clean fluid white layer below. Sizes S through 2XL. The set that looks like it was assembled on a Greek island by someone with a very good eye.

The open-knit asymmetric cape is the centrepiece and the product’s design identity. The knit is a large-gauge, open-hole bouclé/basket-weave construction: individual loops and knot-like texture bumps are clearly visible across the surface, with open gaps between the stitches creating a deliberately airy, semi-transparent, artisan-quality knit fabric. This is not a machine-finished tight knit — it is a loose, irregular, handcrafted-looking open knit that has genuine visual texture at every scale: from a distance it reads as a solid-color layer; up close it reveals a rich, tactile, artisanal surface of loops, gaps, and texture. The cape drapes from the shoulders and neck in a large, loose, square-ish shape that covers the body from the cowl neckline to approximately the lower hip or upper thigh at the sides, and descends to a sharp, asymmetric diagonal front point at the centre. This asymmetric pointed hem — the most visually distinctive feature of the cape silhouette — is created by the angled front fall of the fabric: the left and right front panels overlap in a diagonal, creating a V or diamond-shaped hem point at the centre front that draws the eye downward and creates a dynamic, movement-forward silhouette.

The neckline of the cape is a relaxed, gathered cowl: the fabric gathers and folds in soft, loose drapes at the front neck, sitting at the base of the throat without any structured collar or neckband. The neckline is completely unfussy — the knit simply falls forward in its own weight, creating a soft, open cowl that frames the necklace stack and the chest. The arm openings are batwing-style side slits: the arms pass through open side slits in the cape rather than through constructed sleeves, and the cape fabric falls over the arms and upper body as a single draped layer. The result is a cape that functions as a wearable, layering, three-dimensional garment rather than a flat throw or shawl: the body wears it, the knit hangs from it, and the asymmetric hem creates movement and silhouette with each step. The edges of the cape are deliberately raw and unfinished — the hem, the side openings, and the front diagonal edge all have the slightly irregular, un-hemmed quality of hand-finished knitwear rather than a machined clean edge. This raw-edge finish is entirely intentional and is consistent with the artisan, naturalist aesthetic of the set.

The sleeveless V-neck ruched maxi dress is the foundation layer that makes the cape set possible. Worn alone — as shown in image 2 — it is a complete, beautiful, stand-alone dress. The deep V-neckline descends to approximately the mid-chest, creating a clean, flattering, open neckline that works with the necklace stack worn in all images and provides visual balance to the coverage of the cape above. Just below the bust, the fabric is gathered and ruched into a wide empire-waist band: soft horizontal gathers pull the fabric inward at the empire line, creating a defined, feminine waist moment that interrupts the otherwise fluid fall of the dress and gives the silhouette its shape. From the empire band, the dress falls in soft, fluid columns of satin-like fabric to an asymmetric ruffled/tiered hem at the ankle — longer at the back, with a gentle wave or fishtail at the hem that creates quiet movement and a non-truncating finish at the floor. Side pocket on the right side — confirmed in image 2. The dress fabric is smooth, slightly lustrous, and fluid — a satin-adjacent material that drapes cleanly and photographs with a soft, milky sheen in all colorway images.

The design identity of this set is the deliberate color contrast between the two pieces: in all six colorway images, the cape is styled over the same white/cream maxi dress. The colored artisan-knit cape above and the clean white fluid dress below is the visual statement of the set — a colored, textured, earthy layer over a smooth, neutral white foundation. This contrast — texture against smoothness, color against white, loose open-knit against fluid silk-like fabric — is the design intelligence of the set. It means that any cape colorway works immediately, because white is the universal neutral beneath every color. It also means the dress is instantly versatile on its own, worn without the cape for summer or indoor occasions.

What Makes It Work

The asymmetric diagonal front hem of the cape is the silhouette decision that elevates this from a throw to a fashion piece: a rectangular poncho or shawl draped over a dress creates a boxy, covered, shapeless silhouette. An asymmetric cape with a sharp diagonal front point creates a dynamic, directional, movement-forward silhouette that frames the dress beneath it and creates visual interest at every angle. The pointed hem draws the eye toward the centre front and downward, creating a lengthening, slenderizing visual line. The open-knit texture of the cape against the smooth satin-like texture of the dress is the material contrast that makes both pieces look better together than separately: the visual roughness of the open-knit against the smooth gloss of the fluid dress creates a tactile and visual richness that neither piece has alone. The empire-waist ruching of the dress is the structural detail that makes the dress wearable under the cape without losing its shape: without waist definition, a fluid maxi dress worn under a large draping cape would create a formless, top-heavy silhouette. The ruched empire band creates a visible waist moment that reads through and below the cape hem, giving the overall set a feminine, defined silhouette despite the large volume of the cape above. The white dress as the universal base for all six cape colorways is the commercial intelligence that makes this set endlessly versatile: a buyer who wants the Olive cape for summer resort wears it over the white dress; a buyer who wants the Navy for an autumn evening event wears it over the same white dress; a buyer who wants the Red for a holiday or festive occasion wears it over the same white dress. The six capes and the one white dress create six completely different looks from a single set purchase.

How to Style It

The product images establish one of the most precisely articulated and consistent styling identities in this collection — and the most fully realized expression of the MERIDGE boho-resort aesthetic to date. The backdrop is a raw concrete/plaster gray wall with naturally diffused light that reads as a Mediterranean interior, coastal villa, or artisan studio. The styling is layered, artisan, and deliberately unhurried. Multi-strand layered gold necklace stack: 3–4 strands of varying gold textures — a fine gold chain, a chunky hammered gold disc chain, and what appear to be small gold bead or link strands at varying lengths — visible in all images as a precisely composed stack against the cape cowl neckline. Against the open-knit cape, the layered gold necklace reads through the knit gaps and sits at the neckline as a warm, metallic accent to the earthy knit color. Stacked tortoiseshell/wood/leather bracelets on the visible wrist in all images — matching the broader artisan-naturalist jewelry language. Large round woven rattan/straw tote bag: a large, round, structured rattan bag with raffia texture and a bamboo or natural wood handle, carried in all cape images — the definitive resort/coastal accessory that grounds every colorway of this set in the same coastal-artisan world. Flat tan leather open-toe sandals. Olive Green is the most naturalist and resonant of all the cape colorways — a warm, khaki-adjacent olive over white is the Mediterranean color palette in its most elemental form; it reads immediately as travel, coast, and nature. Red is the most vibrant and festive — a bold, warm red artisan-knit cape over a white fluid dress is a striking, resort-appropriate statement that reads equally well at a beach party, a garden wedding, or an outdoor dinner. Navy Blue is the most classic and season-versatile — navy and white is the most enduring coastal color combination, and the navy open-knit cape over white dress is the most wearable-across-contexts colorway in the set. Black is the most sophisticated and evening-appropriate — a black open-knit cape over a white fluid dress reads as a fashion-considered, dressed-up version of the set that works for evening resort events, coastal dinners, and wine-bar occasions. Apricot is the softest and most feminine — a warm peachy-cream cape over white is the closest-in-value contrast of the six colorways and reads as the most delicate, sun-blushed version of the set. Slate Gray is the most understated and architectural — a cool gray open-knit cape over white reads as minimal, considered, and cool-toned — the cape colorway that works best in urban coastal settings and for buyers with a more restrained aesthetic.

Care Instructions

  • Cape: Hand wash cold or lay flat to dry — the open-knit construction is delicate and the large-gauge loops can stretch or distort in a machine wash cycle. Reshape while damp and lay flat to dry to preserve the asymmetric drape shape
  • Dress: Hand wash cold or machine wash gentle, cold — the fluid satin-like fabric is best preserved with gentle cold water handling. Do not wring. Hang to dry or lay flat
  • Do not bleach either piece — the cape’s color and the dress’s white/cream are both sensitive to bleach agents
  • Cool iron the dress on the reverse side if needed — the fluid fabric can be steamed gently. Do not iron the cape directly — the open-knit loops can melt or distort under direct heat
  • Store the cape folded loosely, not compressed — the open knit holds its drape best when stored without tight folding pressure

Colors may vary slightly due to monitor display settings. Size to your bust and hips for the dress; the cape drapes freely across all sizes. Asian sizing runs 1–2 sizes smaller than US/European. Hand wash cold for the cape; gentle machine wash cold for the dress. Please refer to the size chart above before ordering.
